The Programme

Healthcare for Every
Person with a Disability

Persons with disabilities in Kenya face disproportionate barriers to healthcare — from physical inaccessibility, to unaffordable costs, to a lack of trained healthcare workers. Auschidys addresses this through a comprehensive health and rehabilitation programme that takes services directly to communities.

Our flagship initiative ensures every Auschidys beneficiary is registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA), Kenya's national health coverage scheme — unlocking free or subsidised access to hospitals, clinics, and specialist services. Beyond registration, our DIET-trained community health volunteers and partnered clinicians provide ongoing rehabilitation support.

  • 1,000+ persons with disabilities registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA)
  • Physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions for beneficiaries
  • Mental health and psychosocial support services
  • Early childhood intervention programmes for children with disabilities
  • Community health outreach clinics (including dental with Egaz Moniz University)
  • DIET-trained healthcare workers and community health volunteers
  • Caregiver training on daily health management and rehabilitation at home

How We Work

Our Approach

SHA Registration

Every Auschidys beneficiary is registered with the Social Health Authority, ensuring access to Kenya's national healthcare coverage system.

Clinical Services

Outreach clinics, physiotherapy, and specialised dental sessions (in partnership with Egaz Moniz University) bring services directly to communities.

Rehabilitation

Home-based rehabilitation plans, assistive devices (wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids), and follow-up support help beneficiaries regain independence.

DIET Training

Healthcare workers, community health volunteers, and caregivers are trained using the DIET curriculum — building a sustainable local capacity for inclusive care.

Partnership Spotlight

Egaz Moniz University Dental Partnership

In collaboration with Egaz Moniz University, Auschidys organised a highly successful community dental clinic — bringing specialist dental care directly to children and youth with disabilities who had never previously accessed dental health services. This model of academic-NGO partnership is one we actively seek to replicate across other health disciplines.
